BINTULU, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Two fishermen have been reported missing, while four others were rescued after their boat capsized about three nautical miles northwest of Tanjung Payung, off Bintulu, yesterday.
The missing victims have been identified as the vessel’s skipper, Jender Baem, 65, and his son, Petrus Andrew Jender, 33. The four survivors are Indonesian nationals — Nasri Harun, 30, Jamaluddin Rahman, 34, Nardi Harum, 46, and Tomi Hardi, 20.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Bintulu Zone director Capt Muhammad Suffian Eldine Abdullah said one of the rescued men sustained injuries to his hand and chin and was taken to Bintulu Hospital for further treatment.
He said the incident was reported to the Kuching Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) after the agency received information at about 6.15 pm from the captain of the tugboat TB SWEE, which had rescued four victims.
Muhammad Suffian Eldine said Kuching MRSC activated a search and rescue (SAR) operation, with an MMEA patrol boat deployed to the area.
“The operation also involved a police asset, the PA-49 vessel, which was deployed to the location at 9 am, while MMEA’s Bot Kilat 43 departed for the search area at about 9.50 am.
“Any information or emergencies at sea can be reported to the emergency hotline 999, the MMEA Bintulu Zone Operations Centre at 086-314254 or the Sarawak MMEA Operations Centre at 082-432544,” he said.
