MELAKA, Nov 13 (Bernama) – The Melaka Road Transport Department (JPJ) inspected 8,180 vehicles during six major integrated operations carried out throughout the year to ensure road safety.
Its director, Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop, said 1,285 vehicles were issued notices for various offences under the Road Transport Act 1987, and a total of 1,877 summonses were issued in operations conducted with several enforcement agencies.
“The police (PDRM) issued 194 notices for technical and traffic-related offences, and one driver was arrested for exceeding the legal alcohol limit," she told reporters following a joint operation at Limbongan here last night.
The National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) screened 814 individuals, with 18 testing positive for drugs, including methamphetamine, cannabis, and heroin.
In a recent operation, two motorcycles were seized for expired road tax, and one was ridden by a foreigner without a valid driving licence.
"Of 745 vehicles inspected, 72 were issued notices, and 193 summonses were issued by JPJ for various offences under the Road Transport Act 1987. The AADK also screened 23 individuals, but none tested positive for drugs," she added.
Siti Zarina also announced a 50 per cent discount on compounding summonses from Nov 1 to Dec 30, with RM180,160 collected from 1,392 transactions by Nov 11.
