PUTRAJAYA, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched the Weight Management Awareness Programme (STRIKE) to enhance the health, fitness, and weight management of its employees.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the programme aims to ensure that MACC personnel remain fit, healthy, and well-presented to meet the demands of enforcement duties.
"I want to see MACC officers project an image that reflects the organisation's integrity. Good health is no longer a choice but a necessity to ensure task effectiveness and public confidence," he said in a statement issued after opening the seminar titled 'One Strike! Towards a Healthy Lifestyle, Strike The Weight, Strive For Health!' here today.
Azam said participant commitment must be further strengthened, noting that less than 50 per cent had attended scheduled sessions since the programme's launch in July, including health talks and weekly physical activities.
He added that several improvements have been introduced, including healthier meeting menu options, calorie information displays at cafeterias, calorie markers on staircases, optimised use of gym facilities, and dedicated time every Friday afternoon for fitness activities with certified instructors to reinforce a healthy culture among staff.
"Lifestyle transformation cannot depend solely on programmes but requires self-discipline and continuous awareness. We want officers who are not only efficient in their duties but also physically and mentally strong. Healthy living must become a work culture, not a temporary episode," he said.
The programme is expected to serve as a research project by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the Malaysian Obesity Society (MYOS) for academic publication based on the findings throughout its implementation, which is set to conclude in January 2026.
The STRIKE programme is implemented through a wide range of activities, both in-person and online. These include 'Sembang Santai Kopi O' sessions, lifestyle and weight monitoring logbooks, individual nutrition counselling, basic health assessments, expert sharing sessions, healthy cooking demonstrations, and fitness training led by professional coaches.
