SPECIAL OP: JPJ ISSUES 5,741 SUMMONSES FOR VARIOUS OFFENCES IN THREE STATES

JOHOR BAHRU, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 5,741 summonses for various offences through thei Rentas Sempadan Zon Selatan  operation conducted in three states.

Johor JPJ Director Zulkarnain Yasin said a total of 26,358 vehicles were inspected during the operation held in Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka, which began last Saturday and ended today.

He said, according to the breakdown, 2,382 summonses were issued in Negeri Sembilan, followed by 1,731 in Johor and 1,628 in Melaka.

He added that driving without a licence was among the highest recorded offences, with 1,601 summonses issued, 40 per cent of which involved underage individuals.

“Additionally, JPJ issued 1,371 summonses for failure to renew licences and 1,175 notices for lack of insurance coverage,” he said at a press conference on the operation at the Skudai Toll Plaza here today.

Also present were Negeri Sembilan JPJ Director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf and Melaka JPJ Director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop.

Zulkarnain said JPJ also seized 77 vehicles for being unsafe or unfit for use on the road during the operation.

He explained that the operation, involving 146 officers and personnel, was carried out to raise awareness and encourage the public to comply with road regulations.

“Throughout this operation, we found that public perception regarding the likelihood of being caught when committing traffic offences has also increased to 88 per cent,” he said.

He stressed that JPJ takes such matters seriously and will not compromise with companies, owners or any drivers who continue to blatantly violate the laws and regulations.
