IPOH, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- A 12-year-old boy was killed, while seven others were injured, when a lorry and a car collided at Parit 10, Jalan Sungai Sumun, near Bagan Datuk, yesterday.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the Hutan Melintang fire station received an emergency call at 2.21 pm, and a fire engine reached the scene about 11 minutes later.
"The accident involved a one-tonne lorry loaded with bananas and a Kia Cerato car. Upon arrival, the team found a 27-year-old man pinned in the driver's seat of the car, while members of the public managed to pull the others out,” he said in a statement.
Sabarodzi said a 35-year-old Pakistani man and a 41-year-old woman, who were in the lorry, suffered minor injuries.
"Five of the six occupants in the car, comprising a 27-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman, a six-year-old girl, a 13-year-old boy, and a four-month-old baby girl, suffered serious injuries.
"However, the 12-year-old boy was confirmed dead at the scene by a Ministry of Health medical officer,” he said, adding that all the injured victims were sent to the Teluk Intan Hospital.
He added that the 12-year-old boy's body was handed over to the police, and the operation ended at 5.18 pm.
