KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Ronald McDonald House Charities Malaysia (RMHC Malaysia), the “Charity of Choice” for McDonald’s Malaysia, has donated five smart televisions to Sekolah Kebangsaan (Felda) Pasir Besar in Negeri Sembilan.
In a statement today, RMHC Malaysia said the initiative was carried out in collaboration with Yayasan Jaafar Ahmad, and officiated by its founder, Datuk Azmir Jaafar, who is also the RMHC Malaysia president.
It said that the contribution of smart televisions was a generous gift from Yayasan Jaafar Ahmad, aimed at assisting teachers and students during teaching and learning sessions, as well as improving the digital literacy and competencies of rural schoolchildren in line with the latest technological advancements.
“A total of RM11,000 was spent by Yayasan Jaafar Ahmad to provide this facility, and the funds were channelled through RMHC Malaysia, a charity body devoted to supporting children’s well-being through education and health,” according to the statement.
Azmir was quoted as saying in the statement that he hoped the small contribution would have a meaningful impact and greatly benefit the lives and thoughts of the students.
“As an anak Felda, I understand the challenges rural schools face and the limitations they encounter. This is what motivates me to contribute so that Felda children have access to the latest educational tools and materials,” he said.
Meanwhile, RMHC Malaysia said its Back To School Pack Programme, which provides school supplies like bags and stationery to underprivileged students, has benefited close to 200,000 children nationwide.
The statement noted that to date, almost RM10 million in donations from the public, including corporate bodies, philanthropists, and McDonald’s customers who contributed through Self-Service Kiosks, had been spent for the initiative, which would continue in the future.
The implementation of the programme was also supported by Yayasan Jaafar Ahmad, which had sponsored the pack for nearly 1,000 pre-school students across Negeri Sembilan.
RMHC Malaysia was established in February 1990 as a non-profit organisation, with the mission to create, find and support programmes that directly improve the health and well-being of underprivileged children in Malaysia.
