KOTA KINABALU, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- A total of 200 students and lecturers from the Communication Programme of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, participated in the National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2024 Sabah zone tour with students today.
A statement by the HAWANA 2024 secretariat, said three knowledge-sharing sessions were held at the university’s main campus, focusing on current media topics such as Mobile Journalism (MoJo), Fact Check, and a talk titled "Klik Dengan Bijak" (Click Wisely).
The sessions provided students with guidance on creating effective media content and emphasised the importance of fact-checking to obtain accurate information, while also curbing the spread of false information.
The participants were given direct exposure to the world of media through insights from experienced media professionals, helping them understand the challenges and opportunities in journalism, and sparking a deeper interest in the profession.
During the event, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer and HAWANA 2024 Working Committee chairman, Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, presented a set of high-performance computer and a smart television to the faculty.
Also present were UMS deputy vice-chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof Dr. Rosalam Sarbatly, as well as Bernama editor-in-chief and HAWANA 2024 Project director, Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.
The student tour programme is part of the 2024 National Journalists' Day celebrations, covering Sarawak, Sabah, and the Central, Northern, East Coast, and Southern regions.
It was launched by the Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, at the Sarawak State Library in Kuching on May 25, with the first programme held in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak.
HAWANA 2024 is organised by the Ministry of Communications, with Bernama serving as the implementing agency.
