03/12/2024 10:04 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- The Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) today launched the SEDA Yeepe Studio at Petrosains, The Discovery Centre, Suria KLCC, as part of its efforts to enhance public awareness of sustainable energy.

The studio is part of the Young Energy Explorer Programme (YEEPE), which was launched in 2023 with the goal of educating the public, particularly young people, about the importance of sustainable energy.

In a statement, SEDA Malaysia highlighted that the SEDA Yeepe Studio, which opened in March 2024, has already attracted over 45,000 visitors.

The studio offers an interactive learning experience, featuring various activities and fun games designed to introduce sustainable energy in an engaging and easy-to-understand way.

“The establishment of this studio, in collaboration with Petrosains, represents an innovative and comprehensive approach to conveying the message of sustainable energy to a broader audience,” said the statement.

Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir officiated the launch of the SEDA YEEPE Studio today.

The studio provides visitors, particularly young people, with the opportunity to enhance their creativity through activities designed to deepen their understanding of the challenges involved in developing a sustainable energy sector in Malaysia.

In addition to the SEDA YEEPE Studio, the YEEPE program includes several key activities that focus on supporting the teaching and learning of Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology (STEM) subjects, with a special emphasis on sustainable energy.

The programme includes the YEEPE Roadshow, which saw the participation of 160 students from four selected schools across Malaysia, and the Petrosains RBTX Challenge 2023, a national-level competition with over 3,000 participants from various countries, centred around the theme of innovation in sustainable energy.

The Sustainability Visit Experience and Renewable Energy Video Competition saw 210 students from six schools visiting a renewable energy power plant and participating in a video contest about sustainable energy.

The YEEPE programme is an initiative of the Malaysia Energy Literacy Programme (MELP), chaired by Akmal Nasrullah, aimed at raising awareness of the electricity supply industry.

MELP offers exposure to renewable energy, energy-efficient practices in daily life, green mobility options, tariff and billing mechanisms, as well as the global energy crisis.
