PUTRAJAYA, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- Preparations for the use of the country's first electric vehicle (EV), the e.MAS 7, as the official car for ASEAN leaders when attending state events are now in the final stages as Malaysia becomes the ASEAN Chairmanship next year.
Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the Proton e.MAS 7, an EV produced by Proton Holdings Bhd (PROTON), will be the official vehicle as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, yesterday.
"We will use e.MAS 7 at a certain level, but the other levels will also be using mostly EVs of different brands.
"Actually, there are other EV vehicles that will be used, only the e.MAS 7 is the official vehicle, but there are other vehicles at various levels. There are levels for heads of state, heads of government, ministers, officials and so on, depending on specific requests and needs," he said at a press conference after the Handover Ceremony of the Guidelines for the Transition of Government Vehicles to EVs, here today.
Yesterday, Anwar said the selection of the e.MAS 7 as the official car for next year's ASEAN meeting showed the government's support for the production of the country's first electric car by Proton.
It also showed the country's commitment in promoting EV development, emphasising that it was a direct and visible extension of the country's net zero carbon emissions commitment.
