ABIM WANTS ISRAEL'S PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL SPORTS ACTIVITIES BANNED

KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (ABIM) has urged the international community to step up pressure on Israel following the inhumane attacks on civilians in Gaza.

ABIM president Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin said some of the measures that could be taken include calling for international sports bodies to suspend the involvement of Israeli teams and athletes in international sports.

"For example, the Israeli football team is still reported to be active in the European Zone World Cup qualifiers despite the atrocities against Gazans continuing to be rampant without any clear political action from global authorities.

"In such a situation, the act of excluding the involvement of Israel and its citizens from sports and social activities is an important step to prove the commitment of the international political elite to the principles of universal humanity," he said in a statement here today.

In addition, Ahmad Fahmi said ABIM also strongly condemns the actions of the United States through several statements that openly deny the effects of the Israeli regime's inhumane attacks in Gaza.

He said the statements not only violated universal moral and humanitarian principles, but also provided a justification that showed a defence against the ongoing acts of genocide.

"With the death toll exceeding 700 people and the majority of them are children, the United States' efforts to justify this attack on Gaza are not the same as directly abetting crimes against humanity.

"This action clearly ignores the voices of the community and international institutions who have expressed their objection to the atrocities committed recklessly by Israel," he said.
