SIBU, March 24 (Bernama) -- Residents of the Katibas state constituency affected by the recent floods have been advised to stay alert to potential scammers posing as aid providers.
Katibas Assemblyman Lidam Assan emphasised the need for vigilance to avoid falling victim to individuals seeking to exploit the difficult situation.
"Be mindful of your safety during these challenging times. There are concerns that irresponsible parties may take advantage of the situation," he said.
In a Facebook post, Lidam advised residents to be cautious if approached by anyone claiming to offer help but requesting personal information like identification cards.
He suggested that any inquiries or requests for assistance be directed to the Song District Office to ensure proper coordination through the Song District Disaster Management Committee.
"If the help is from family members, that's different," he added.
Lidam welcomed those wishing to assist flood victims in Katibas to coordinate directly with the responsible committee to ensure aid reaches the intended recipients.
Meanwhile, Song District, part of the Katibas constituency, recorded the highest number of flood victims, with 379 people from 104 families affected.
The victims, who had been temporarily sheltered at the Balai Raya Song relief centre, were allowed to return home at 5 pm yesterday after the flood situation improved.
