KMJ SHOWS CARE, SUPPORT FOR SICK, ELDERLY FORMER MEDIA PRACTITIONERS

26/03/2025 06:57 PM

JOHOR, March 26 (Bernama) -- Kelab Media Johor (KMJ) continues its tradition of visiting and helping current and former media practitioners who have served in the state in conjunction with this year's Ramadan.

One of the individuals visited by KMJ this year was former part-time cameraman for Bernama, Hussin Hassan, 65, at his home in Taman Muhibbah, Kluang. He has been battling diabetes and kidney disease for the past three years.

According to Hussin, he is no longer able to work and must undergo dialysis treatment three times a week, in addition to needing rest as he is unable to perform heavy tasks.

"At the moment, I still cannot work due to my health condition. Not only is it difficult to work, but I even need assistance to go for dialysis treatment.

"I am also experiencing vision problems, and according to the doctor, I need surgery costing about RM4,000. I would like to thank KMJ for remembering me," he said today.

Another former Bernama stringer in Batu Pahat, Tukiran Kitam, 77, who now resides in Tangkak, was deeply touched by the visit from KMJ members to his home.

"I worked at Bernama in the 70s, before serving at Utusan Malaysia until 2006. I decided to retire due to my health condition (high blood pressure)," he said.

KMJ president Mohamad Fauzi Ishak, who is also the president of Gabungan Kelab Media Malaysia, said that the programme is part of the club's welfare activities.

He said that it aims to maintain the bond between the club and its former members, even though they are no longer in the profession.

"Some of our friends are sick, elderly and no longer working. With the visit and a small contribution of cash and daily necessities, we hope to bring joy to them, especially with the upcoming Aidilfitri celebrations," he said.

The visit initiative, which began at 8.30 am, covered several districts including Johor Bahru, Kota Tinggi, Kluang, Tangkak and Muar. It involved eight former media practitioners from various agencies such as TV3, Bernama, Berita Harian, Utusan Malaysia, The Star, Medkom and Tamil Malar.
