GEORGE TOWN, March 30 (Bernama) -- Despite his impaired vision, 10-year-old Muhammad Hafizuddin Muhammad Amirul Hakim Linges possesses extraordinary abilities that make him truly remarkable.
From as early as one year old, he showed a deep inclination toward religion. By the age of four, he had begun memorising Surah Yasin, and by six, he had committed it entirely to memory.
He later went on to memorise other significant surahs, including Al-Mulk, Al-Kahfi, Ar-Rahman, As-Sajdah, Al-Insan, Juz Amma, and the first 101 verses of Surah Al-Baqarah.
His love for the mosque is evident in his active participation in nearly all activities held there, earning him the trust to serve as a young bilal at Masjid At-Taqwa, Taman Tun Sardon, near Gelugor.
Even at such a young age, he carries himself with a maturity beyond his years. His melodious voice, especially when reciting Quranic verses and calling the adhan, further sets him apart.
His mother, Wan Dalila Diyana Wan Mustoffa, 42, shared that Muhammad Hafizuddin never met his father, who passed away from brain cancer when she was seven months pregnant.
Tragically, at just four months old, Muhammad Hafizuddin was diagnosed with eye cancer, which left him blind in his left eye and impaired in his right.
Wan Dalila, who is also visually impaired, first noticed her son's passion for religion when he was just a year old, as he would ask her to pray upon hearing the adhan from the nearby mosque.
"Whenever the adhan was called, he would eagerly urge us to go to the mosque. He has been active there since he was three, often accompanying his grandfather.
“The mosque is like his second home, where he spends most of his time," she said, adding that Muhammad loves reciting dhikr and selawat, as well as attending Quran memorisation classes.
"His gift lies in his ability to listen to the imam and memorise on his own. I only guide and correct him if he misses a vowel or a dot due to his speed. Even in school, his teachers recognised his potential when he was six and entrusted him to lead prayers and supplications," she told Bernama recently.
Wan Dalila views her son's abilities as a divine blessing. She prays that his faith remains steadfast, his heart illuminated for Quran memorisation, and that he is granted husnul khatimah (a good ending). Her greatest wish is to see him become a Hafiz one day.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Hafizuddin expressed his deep love for listening to the imam’s recitations during prayers and aspires to become an imam or a muezzin.
He also hopes to attend a tahfiz school and eventually fulfill his dream of becoming a Hafiz.
“I am grateful and happy to be a bilal here. InsyaAllah, one day I want to become an imam or Bilal. I aim to memorise at least half of the Quran by the time I turn 12, before going to a tahfiz school,” said the student of Madrasah Uthmaniah (ABIM) Sungai Ara.
Muhammad Hafizuddin shared his memorisation technique, explaining that he reads a verse seven times, then closes the Quran and recites it from memory three times.
He begins his day at 5 am, revising his memorisation before performing the Subuh prayer, and continues reciting the Quran before leaving for school.
Masjid At-Taqwa treasurer Abdul Aziz Md Noohu, said the mosque is considering appointing Muhammad Hafizuddin as a youth icon to inspire other children to actively participate in mosque activities.
“We are proud of his achievements and contributions despite being only 10 years old. We have organised many programmes to nurture young talents in our community, preparing them to become future Bilals and imams.
"We have given him the opportunity to call the adhan, and this Ramadan, he was invited to serve as the bilal for Tarawih prayers during the first 15 nights," he said.
