PM ANWAR TO ENSURE REDEVELOPMENT OF LANDSLIDE-HIT GAYA IPG CAMPUS BE EXPEDITED

26/09/2025 01:40 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to depart for Kota Kinabalu today to ensure several critical development projects for the people of Sabah are expedited, including the plan to redevelop the Gaya Teacher Education Institute (IPG) campus, which was severely damaged by the recent landslide.

Speaking at the Ministry of Finance’s monthly assembly this morning, Anwar said the extent of the damage to the campus made it difficult to repair, and the government is now considering relocating it to a new site.

“This was not part of the Finance Ministry’s original plan, but some adjustments will need to be made.

“If you ask the budget division, they’ll probably agree on the condition that we use existing allocations. So I’ll just make a few tweaks,” he said.

Anwar stressed that any budget adjustments would not be for luxury spending, but to ensure the wellbeing of the people remains the government's top priority.

“Whatever national revenue we have, it’s not for extravagance. It’s for the people’s welfare and wellbeing,” he added.

Previously, Anwar had instructed the Ministry of Education to urgently submit a detailed report on the damage sustained by the Gaya IPG campus due to the landslide.
