STRONG QUAKE HITS LEYTE, PHILIPPINES, TREMORS FELT IN SANDAKAN - METMALAYSIA

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- A strong earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale struck Leyte, the Philippines, at 9.59 pm today, with tremors also felt around Sandakan, Sabah.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a statement tonight said the earthquake occurred about 50 kilometres northwest of Ormoc, the Philippines.

According to MetMalaysia, the strong quake was recorded at a depth of 10 km.

However, there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia.

MetMalaysia also urged members of the public who felt the tremors to fill in a questionnaire available at https://forms.gle/NWR9oUvQoK3FsQ5j8.
