SABAH POLLS: UPKO PROPOSES USING OWN LOGO

KOTA KINABALU, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) has proposed to the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidential Council that the party use its own logo in the upcoming 17th Sabah state election.

UPKO president Datuk Ewon Benedick said, however, that the matter is still under discussion and no decision has been made yet.

“We want PH to have an emphasis on the Sabah spirit, which is why UPKO has proposed to use its own logo. I believe our fellow PH leaders understand UPKO’s position on this matter.

“For me, as long as discussions are ongoing, let them continue until a decision is made. Once there is a decision, we will announce it,” he told reporters after officiating at the Halal Franchise Conference here today.

Ewon, who is also Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, said this when asked to comment on speculation that UPKO would contest under its own logo in the upcoming Sabah state election.

Apart from UPKO, PH comprises PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara.

Ewon also confirmed that he would be defending the Kadamaian seat in the coming polls.

On Oct 6, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the dissolution of the Sabah State Assembly to pave the way for the 17th Sabah state election.

The Sabah State Assembly has 79 seats, 73 of which are contested, while six are appointed members.

The Election Commission will hold a special meeting on Oct 16 to discuss key dates and other matters related to the state election.
