PERAK READY TO FOSTER COLLABORATION IN DIGITAL INNOVATION - EXCO

12/10/2025 11:44 AM

IPOH, Oct 12  (Bernama) -- The establishment of the Sovereign AI Cloud can strengthen Malaysia’s digital infrastructure and ensure the country keeps pace with the global advancement of artificial intelligence (AI).

Perak Communications, Multimedia and Non-governmental Organisations Committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi said the state government is prepared to play an active role in the initiative through strategic partnerships with federal agencies, public universities and the local technology industry.

“Perak has tremendous potential in digital innovation and entrepreneurship, in line with the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan introduced by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad,” he told Bernama.

He said the Sovereign AI Cloud initiative would not only boost the nation’s data storage and processing capacity but also reinforce Malaysia’s digital sovereignty.

“This initiative will create vast opportunities for the education, research and local enterprise sectors to develop more competitive AI applications and solutions,” he added.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling Budget 2026 on Friday, announced that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will develop a Sovereign AI Cloud with an investment of RM2 billion.

He also said the government plans to offer an additional 50 per cent tax deduction to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) for AI and cybersecurity training expenses recognised by the MyMahir National AI Council for Industry (NAICI), jointly led by TalentCorp and MyDigital.

Mohd Azlan said such incentives would help accelerate the development of skilled local talent across the state.

He added that investments in AI are in line with the AI Nation 2030 aspirations announced by the Prime Minister and will further strengthen Malaysia’s position as a regional technology hub.

“Perak will continue to strengthen its digital ecosystem through training programmes, support for start-ups and smart community initiatives to ensure the benefits of AI transformation reach all levels of society,” he said.
