PUTRAJAYA, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The 49th meeting of the National Physical Planning Council (MPFN) today approved the Planning Guidelines for Vertical Schools in Multi-Storey Housing Schemes prepared by PLANMalaysia, as an innovative step to optimise land use in high-density urban areas.

In a statement, the Housing and Local Government Ministry said the guidelines mark a significant milestone towards developing a sustainable, modern and holistic urban education model in line with the Malaysia MADANI vision.

Chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the meeting also endorsed PR1MA’s proposed Bandar MADANI Bukit Jalil development, which will feature smart homes, vertical schools, smart mobility solutions and renewable energy technologies starting next year.

“MPFN also took note of the Kuala Lumpur Local Plan 2040, which came into force on June 11 to replace the Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020. The plan aims to make the federal capital more inclusive, sustainable and liveable by 2040,” the statement said.

The meeting further reviewed the Highway Network Development Plan (HNDP 2040) for Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan, prepared by the Works Ministry.

The plan involves 47 new road projects and 80 upgrading projects, spanning a total of 2,388.32 kilometres beyond 2040.

A total of six papers were tabled at the meeting, namely four for approval and two for information.

According to the ministry, the HNDP 2040 reflects the government’s commitment to bridging regional development gaps, enhancing the well-being of rural communities and ensuring safer, modern and inclusive transport connectivity for all Malaysians.
