NILAI, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- MS Waste Management Sdn Bhd (MSWM) made history today after being recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) as the first company in the country to carry out a Lithium Battery Recovery Process with a Comprehensive Environmental Control System.
MSWM chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Rahim said the achievement coincided with the launch of the company’s Scheduled Waste Recovery Facility SW103 for used lithium batteries — the first in Malaysia equipped with an integrated environmental pollution control system licensed by the Department of Environment (DOE).
He said the high-tech facility marks a significant step toward sustainable and environmentally friendly scheduled waste management, further strengthening MSWM’s position in the industry and setting a new benchmark for green innovation and waste management in the country.
“With over 20 years of experience, MSWM is committed to providing comprehensive solutions for scheduled waste management, covering analysis, treatment, recycling and logistics.
“Our focus goes beyond profit. We support the nation’s aspiration for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 while prioritising environmental preservation and full compliance with international standards,” he said during the launch of the SW103 facility at MSWM Nilai today.
The MBR recognition certificate was presented by MBR officer Menaga Vadamalai to MSWM director Magathevan Anthony, witnessed by Negeri Sembilan senior state executive councillor Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias.
Also present were MSWM strategic advisor Datuk Fariz Nazrul Che Noh and managing director Datuk A. Mariasoosay Arulanandam.
Abdul Rahman said MSWM is certified with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 37001, demonstrating its capabilities in quality management, occupational safety and health and anti-corruption governance.
Founded by Mariasoosay and Magathevan, MSWM is a leading scheduled waste management company in Malaysia, with several new high-tech, resource-efficient and eco-friendly projects in the pipeline.
“MSWM’s main focus is on developing innovative technologies for managing scheduled and domestic solid waste to enhance safety, efficiency and compliance with international standards.
“This approach is expected to contribute to environmental sustainability and improve the quality of life, in line with the nation’s vision for a green and sustainable future,” he added.
Meanwhile, Jalaluddin said the RM60 million facility can process up to 2,160 tonnes of used lithium materials per month.
He said the SW103 facility demonstrates how the industrial sector is aligning with the government’s priority to drive sustainable, responsible and green development.
“Through lithium battery recovery and scheduled waste processing technology, what was once considered waste is now a valuable new resource.
“This approach saves resources, reduces carbon emissions, strengthens the local raw material supply chain and creates high-skilled job opportunities,” he said.
Jalaluddin said this initiative is a prime example of collaboration between the government and industry in advancing a circular economy, in line with Malaysia’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
