SEPANG, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has deployed about 2,000 officers and personnel to ensure smooth operations at the country’s entry points in conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Summit, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur from Oct 26 to 28.
Its director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the agency’s personnel would be responsible for coordinating the arrival of heads of state and international delegations at the Bunga Raya Complex and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1.
He said AKPS, which is responsible for managing entry procedures, would receive notifications from the Foreign Ministry on the arrival details of each delegation, whether they involve heads of government or heads of state.
“We will then facilitate their entry, as our role is limited to conducting immigration clearance at the entry points,” he told a press conference here today.
Mohd Shuhaily added that, as part of the preparations, all AKPS personnel have had their leave frozen to ensure the smooth movement of delegations and visiting leaders throughout the summit in the capital.
“All manpower and resources are on standby for all possible scenarios,” he said.
On the security aspect, he said it falls under the supervision and responsibility of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).
The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from Oct 26 to 28.
More than 30 heads of state and government are expected to gather in the Malaysian capital to discuss a range of issues on regional peace, economic resilience, and inclusive growth under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, themed ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’.
