IPOH, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Residents living in flood-risk areas in Perak are advised not to wait until the last moment to move to the nearest Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) for their own safety.
Women Development, Family, Community Welfare, Entrepreneur Development, and Cooperatives Committee chairman, Datuk Salbiah Mohamed, said the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) and other rescue agencies are fully prepared on the ground to face the potential disaster.
"I urge all residents in at-risk areas not to wait until the last minute to evacuate. The safety of our lives and families must be prioritised. If instructed to relocate, proceed immediately to the nearest PPS," she said in a Facebook post this morning.
She added that thorough preparations have been made, such as providing safe and comfortable shelter, food, drink, and basic necessities for evacuees; psychosocial support; and coordinating donations and volunteers to ensure aid reaches the affected public in an orderly manner.
“The Perak government has assured that all affected residents will be properly taken care. NGOs or individuals wishing to contribute donations can contact the Flood Operations Control Centre in their respective districts to coordinate the aid," she said.
As of 8.00 am, 2,171 residents from 759 families have been relocated to 22 PPS in the Larut Matang and Selama, as well as Manjung districts, due to floods caused by heavy rain since yesterday morning.
