SEPANG, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Foreign ministers from across ASEAN continue arriving in Malaysia today ahead of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, one of the bloc's most significant gatherings in years.
Timor-Leste’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, landed with his delegation at 9.50 am at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, together with Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, touched down at 11.48 am.
Malaysia, as ASEAN Chair this year under the theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’, will host the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur from Oct 26 to 28.
The summit will gather leaders from the 10 ASEAN member states and dialogue partners, including the United States, China, Japan and South Korea.
Expected to be the largest ASEAN gathering since its inception in 1967, it will welcome global leaders, including US President Donald Trump, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa.
The event will also see Timor-Leste’s active participation towards its accession as ASEAN’s 11th member, expected to be formalised during the summit on Oct 26.
