MARINEHACK 2025 FINALS SHOWCASE NEXT-GEN MARITIME INNOVATORS, AI-DRIVEN INNOVATIONS

LABUAN, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- The MarineHack 2025 Finals, themed ‘Navigating Tomorrow: Smart Solutions for a Sustainable Maritime Industry’, concluded today at Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL), marking the culmination of a nationwide hackathon involving 130 students from across the country.

A total of 36 finalists competed in eight teams representing Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

Jointly organised by PINC Technology Sdn. Bhd. and UMSKAL, the programme aimed to inspire young innovators to develop technology-driven solutions to real-world maritime challenges using Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data Analytics, with emphasis on ESG and sustainability.

In his opening remarks, PINC Technology managing director Josef Wong outlined MarineHack’s vision to nurture the next generation of maritime innovators and strengthen collaboration between academia, industry and the technology sector.

He highlighted the transformative potential of AI and digitalisation in advancing Malaysia’s maritime sector, noting that such innovations support the nation’s sustainable development agenda.

The event also recognised recent achievements of PINC Technology, including accolades from PIKOM, the SME Platinum Business Awards, Nanyang Siang Pau’s Golden Eagle Awards (Top 10 Excellent Eagles 2025), and its first international honour, the ASOCIO AI Service Provider Award in Taiwan.

Closing the event, Associate Professor Dr Geoffrey Harvey Tanakinjal, Dean of UMSKAL’s Faculty of International Finance praised the participants for their creativity, resilience and commitment to sustainable innovation.

He said MarineHack 2025 stands as a testament to Malaysia’s expanding innovation ecosystem, where technology, education and sustainability converge to shape the nation’s maritime future.
