KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Police reminded the public not to gather or conduct any recreational activities along the coast during the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) season.
Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said this follows the turbulent sea conditions and large waves that have hit Terengganu in recent days.
He said among the locations that often attract the public are Batu Buruk Beach and Pandak Beach in Kuala Terengganu; Seberang Takir Beach and Tok Jembal Beach in Kuala Nerus.
"The current conditions are not suitable and are extremely dangerous for any activity by the beach. Large waves also bring stones, logs, and debris which can pose a risk of injury. Therefore, the public is advised to avoid any water activities throughout the MTL season," he said in a statement today.
In addition, Azli said the public is also reminded to comply with all warning signs and red flags installed by the Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT) along high-risk beaches.
Should the weather conditions worsen, he urged the public to be aware of any evacuation orders or safety warnings issued by the authorities.
"Parents also need to monitor the movement of their children in low-lying areas prone to flooding, as there are concerns about drowning incidents or being trapped in strong currents. The police will increase patrols in high-risk areas from time to time to ensure public safety," he said.
