DOUBLE WHAMMY FOR FLOOD VICTIM IN CHENULANG

30/11/2025 12:05 PM

KUALA KRAI, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- Despite having just faced the anxiety of saving his family when their house was flooded, a father in Chenulang was put to the test again when his car caught fire while they were taking shelter at a temporary relief centre (PPS).

For Mohd Khairi Mat Zain, 30, who was still tired of moving and thinking about the state of his house, the incident was like adding to the pain at a time when his family was just finding a place to calm down after the flood disaster early Wednesday morning.

The father of two said the incident happened at about 12 noon when he returned home at RPT Chenulang to clean his house which had been flooded since early Wednesday morning.

"My house was flooded at about 2 am. My family immediately moved to the PPS in SK Chenulang in a Proton Persona.

"When the water started to recede the next day, I went home to clean the house. Suddenly my mother, Normadia Awang, 59, called and told me that smoke was coming out of the engine of my car,” he told Bernama recently.

Mohd Khairi then rushed back to the PPS before opening the bonnet of the car, and several flood victims also helped put out the fire using fire extinguishers found in the school grounds.

“This car is the only vehicle I have used for almost seven years for work and family matters. So far I do not know the exact cause of the fire…maybe a short circuit or other reasons.

“I am very grateful to the victims at the PPS who all helped put out the fire before it spread,” he said.

He said the cost of repairing the car was expected to be high and he is now considering buying a new vehicle when the situation improves.

“I am at peace with what happened. When the flood subsides, I will take care of the house and car matters one by one,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bernama's survey around the affected areas in Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah and Machang found that flood victims in PPS have started returning to clean their homes which have been submerged in water since last Tuesday.
