WAN JUNAIDI LAUNCHES ABANG JOHARI’S BIOGRAPHY

KUCHING, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- The Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, today launched a new biography chronicling the life and leadership of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Titled “Abang Johari Sarawak’s First Premier: A Political Biography”, the 113-page book, written by Professor Michael Leigh and published by Dayak Cultural Publication (DCF), traces the Premier’s journey in shaping Sarawak’s political and economic landscape.

In his speech, Wan Junaidi said the book documents Abang Johari’s life and leadership, highlighting a journey marked by vision, dedication, and a steadfast commitment to Sarawak’s progress.

“Abang Johari is a reformist. His contributions, however, are recognised not only within Sarawak or Malaysia; his leadership has been acknowledged beyond our shores.

“His initiatives to expand connectivity, uplift rural communities and diversify the economy demonstrate his determination to build a resilient and modern Sarawak. His leadership has always been for the people of Sarawak, reaching every corner of the state, from Tanjung Datu to Lawas, ensuring that no community is left behind,” he said.

Also present at the launch were Abang Johari; Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also DCF chairman; and Leigh.

Meanwhile, Uggah said DCF had undertaken the biography project because the Premier’s story was, in many ways, the story of Sarawak’s modern transformation.

“This book stands as a gesture of appreciation from the Dayak community to the Premier for his continuous support and enduring commitment to our people,” he said.
