JASIN, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- The Bernama Motorcycle Club (BMC) carries out visits to strengthen the bond between the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) staff and retirees.
Former Bernama driver Ishak Desa, 67, was indeed touched with the recent presence of the 32 BMC club members at his home in Taman Kesang Indah here, especially since he is now suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD), osteoporosis and diabetes.
"The relationship between myself and the other staff at Bernama remains good to this day, like siblings, and we always keep in touch via a WhatsApp group. For today's visit and contributions, I am very grateful, not for the items received, but for still remembering me.
"I am even more touched because until now, if any old friends come to Melaka, they will visit me and take me out for a drink in the nearby area because I'm not strong enough to drive far due to my kidney ailment," he told Bernama.
Despite being forced to undergo dialysis three times a week, Ishak, who is from Perlis, remains active with various daily activities and admits he misses his work as a driver at Bernama after retiring in 2019.
Recalling memories from his time serving in the Bernama Vehicle Unit, he said that even though his salary was not much back then, he was still happy to work there and was even offered positions in other departments, which he declined.
Meanwhile, BMC president Amrizan Madian said the annual visitation event, held since 2023, embodies the motto of "Two Wheels, One Soul," serving as a bridge for BMC members to maintain good relations with former Bernama staff.
"This is an opportunity for us to catch up and meet Bernama retirees and learn about their latest developments.
"We also bring small contributions… and for the visit in Melaka, we visited two retirees and an orphanage. We hope these visits will continue to strengthen the bond between the BMC and Bernama retirees," he added.
