KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- Global precision genetics leader, Yikon Genomics (Yikon), has officially opened its inaugural Malaysian laboratory in Kuala Lumpur, marking a significant advancement for reproductive and preventive healthcare across the Asia-Pacific region.

In a statement, Yikon described the new facility as a major milestone in its regional expansion, aligning with its mission to make advanced genetic testing and preventive healthcare solutions more accessible, affordable, and impactful for everyone.

The laboratory will function as both a service and reference centre for the Asia-Pacific, offering comprehensive screening for reproductive and hereditary diseases while actively building collaborative partnerships with local hospitals, fertility centres and research institutions.

“By combining cutting-edge science with regional collaboration, Yikon aims to accelerate the adoption of precision medicine and preventive healthcare solutions across the region,” read the statement.

According to the statement, the event commenced with welcome remarks from Yikon's founder and chief executive officer, Dr Sijia Lu, who expressed optimism about Malaysia's increasing commitment to advancing genomics and preventive healthcare.

“With our Malaysian lab, we are one step closer to realising that vision, enabling healthier families, stronger communities and a more sustainable healthcare system for generations to come,” he said.

Dr Lu added that the Kuala Lumpur facility will function as a regional hub that supports local laboratories, strengthens fertility centres and advances preventive healthcare across the Asia Pacific.

“The future of medicine lies in prevention, not just treatment, and this milestone brings us closer to building healthier families and stronger communities throughout the region,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yikon Genomics Malaysia lab manager Dr David Wong said the new facility reflects the company’s enduring commitment to advancing reproductive genetics and precision medicine.

“With advanced multi-platform sequencing and a dedicated team of experts, this hub enables partners to build local capability and accelerate scientific and clinical progress across the Asia Pacific,” he said.

Yikon is a leading biotechnology company specialising in reproductive genetics, precision medicine, and population health.

The company leverages advanced single-cell and low-input DNA technologies to provide a comprehensive suite of genetic testing services, from embryo screening to assessments for hereditary diseases and cancer risks.
