SABAK BERNAM, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) is implementing seven projects aimed at improving physical and social infrastructure in Kampung Baharu here under the Kampung Angkat MADANI (MADANI Adopted Village) initiative.
Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the projects involve upgrades to key facilities, including the community hall, cemetery, mosque, business premises, Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Baharu and a pre-school.
He said the projects include, among others, repairs to building structures, electrical systems and basic facilities; the procurement of learning equipment and support facilities; the provision of a funeral management room; and the development of a children's play area.
“Various programmes and activities were carried out during the four-day DOSM engagement to ensure the success of the opening ceremony. These included sports activities such as FitDOSM, football tournament, cooking, essay-writing and fishing competitions, gotong-royong and rewang (communal cooking) activities, as well as religious talks,” he said.
“These programmes were aimed at strengthening the spirit of cooperation, increasing community participation and fostering unity among residents,” he said at a press conference after officiating the opening and handover of the physical projects under the DOSM’s Kampung Angkat MADANI initiative at the Kampung Baharu community hall here today.
Mohd Uzir said DOSM also engaged directly with traders and vendors around Sungai Besar to raise awareness of the importance of data in managing and growing their businesses.
He said that as the main government agency responsible for collecting, interpreting and disseminating official national statistics to monitor economic performance and social development, DOSM supports the development of Kampung Baharu through a data-driven approach.
“DOSM is committed to strengthening statistical literacy within the community through awareness programmes and activities, including guidance on the use of data for small businesses and smart agriculture, towards building a data-literate society capable of making informed decisions.
“A country that aspires to progress needs its people to be proficient in using statistics, as this provides the insight and wisdom necessary for sound decision-making and effective resource management,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said DOSM is also implementing a smart school digitalisation project at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Limau, Sungai Besar, under the Sekolah Angkat MADANI (MADANI Adopted School) initiative.
He said the project includes the upgrading and development of a digital resource centre, as well as the establishment of a computer laboratory through approved allocations.
