SELANGOR GOVT TO HOLD MEETING NEXT MONDAY OVER REPAIR OF WIRING SYSTEM AT SERI PERANTAU FLATS

PORT KLANG, Dec 26 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government will hold a meeting next Monday (Dec 29) to determine measures to repair the electrical wiring system affecting 128 residential units in Block C of the Seri Perantau Flats here, following an ongoing electricity disruption since Dec 7.

State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the prolonged power outage has significantly affected residents’ daily lives, including mobility within the building due to non-functioning lifts, as well as disruptions to water supply caused by inoperative pumps.

“We will meet with the building management and all relevant agencies, including the State Secretariat (PSUK), this Monday to decide on comprehensive solutions and ensure that repair works are implemented promptly and in an orderly manner.

“Any decision made will prioritise residents’ safety and carefully consider technical and financial risks before repair works and the redistribution of electricity supply are carried out, to prevent short circuits or additional costs,” he told reporters after a working visit to the affected flats today.

Borhan said initial assessments found that a fire in the electrical distribution board (DB) room caused severe damage to the entire wiring system in Block C, resulting in electricity supply disruptions to most residential units.

He added that technical inspections revealed only a small number of units were able to receive temporary electricity through a bypass supply provided by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).

“This bypass method cannot be fully implemented due to the risk of recurring short circuits, particularly involving damaged DBs. Any implementation without thorough technical inspections could pose serious safety risks to residents.

“We do not want to take unnecessary risks that could endanger lives or property. Safety and cost-effective repairs remain our top priorities,” he said.

Borhan said feedback from the Joint Management Body (JMB) indicated that the cost of repairing the electrical system is substantial, as it involves comprehensive works for individual units as well as the building’s security system.

He said a detailed review of the electrical infrastructure revealed that the scope of repairs was broader than initially anticipated, requiring the replacement of critical components, new wiring, and safety inspections of all electrical connections.

“Initial repair costs were estimated at around RM520,000. However, following a thorough inspection, the total cost is now projected to be close to RM1.7 million to ensure the system operates safely and complies with technical standards.

“This will require close cooperation among all stakeholders, including the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), TNB, and other technical agencies, to expedite repairs and manage costs effectively,” he said.

Earlier, Borhan, who is Tanjong Sepat Assemblyman, conducted a working visit to Block C of the Seri Perantau Flats to assess the situation firsthand and identify the immediate needs of residents.

He said the visit enabled him to evaluate residents’ safety and welfare, particularly the elderly and patients who rely on electricity for medical equipment.

On Dec 7, a fire broke out in the DB room of Block C at the Seri Perantau Flats, destroying the building’s wiring system and disrupting electricity supply to about 600 residents across 128 residential units.
