KANGAR, Jan 6 (Bernama) -- The total amount of zakat funds distributed by the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) through the implementation of 1,069 MAIPs Peduli Cycling Programme since 2013 has reached RM32,074,600.
MAIPs chief executive officer Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor said the continuous cycling activities have benefited 49,800 recipients to date, reflecting MAIPs’ sustained commitment to strengthening the welfare of the asnaf community in Perlis.
“MAIPs organised 91 series of the MAIPs Peduli cycling programme to distribute more than RM2.7 million in zakat assistance throughout 2025. The initiative benefited 4,375 asnaf recipients across the state.
“All the cycling sessions were personally led by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also the president of MAIPs, and His Royal Highness graciously met and handed over assistance directly to selected recipients,” he said in a statement today.
He said the programme involved visits to mosques, villages and schools in almost all parts of Perlis, with the initiative aimed at engaging more closely with the asnaf community and gaining a deeper understanding of their needs more comprehensively and effectively.
“The programme also received strong cooperation from various state and federal departments and agencies, with the active involvement of department heads and their staff to ensure its smooth implementation and success,” Mohd Nazim said.
Meanwhile, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra expressed his appreciation to zakat contributors through MAIPs and all those involved in the programme, particularly the entire MAIPs workforce and other strategic partners, for their tireless efforts in ensuring the success of the initiative throughout the past year.
His Highness expressed his hope that the programme, which will continue this year, can be strengthened through a more impactful, holistic and efficient approach, in line with the ongoing commitment to assist and enhance the well-being of the asnaf community in Perlis in their efforts to break free from the cycle of poverty.
