PUTRAJAYA, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- The government will introduce a special management training module, to strengthen governance and financial management among Muslim non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the move is crucial in addressing gaps in knowledge and management skills, which have contributed to allegations of misconduct, including corruption and embezzlement, involving some Muslim NGOs.
“We have discussed the development of a comprehensive and holistic module, to assist Muslim NGOs in strengthening their capabilities in management, finance, administration and governance.
“We view this as an urgent need, as these organisations carry significant responsibilities and public trust,” he told reporters, after delivering his New Year’s message here, today.
Earlier, Zulkifli, in his message, said that the government would not introduce any new plans in the management of Islamic religious affairs, but would instead continue implementing existing policies and initiatives, with the necessary adjustments and improvements.
He said the approach was aimed at ensuring policy continuity and avoiding frequent changes whenever there is a change in leadership.
“We will continue what is good and make the necessary adjustments, refinements and improvements to existing plans,” he said, adding that a retreat session would be held to redraft the documents.
Commenting on the approach to dakwah and the management of religious issues, Zulkifli stressed the need to shift from a defensive and reactive stance to one that is more proactive and forward-looking.
“Previously, our approach was too defensive and reactive - we only responded when issues arose.
“What is most important today is for everyone to help project the true beauty of Islam to the world through proactive efforts, by providing understanding and enlightenment to the community,” he said.
Zulkifli added that such efforts were crucial to prevent society from being influenced by extremist and toxic views, which could tarnish the image of Islam.
