WAKAF MEDIA TO ROLL OUT IN THREE PHASES TO BOOST ISLAMIC MEDIA, DAKWAH

14/01/2026 09:26 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- The Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia (YWM), together with TV AlHijrah, today launched the Wakaf Media Fund, a three-phase initiative aimed at supporting Islamic media content and dakwah activities in Malaysia.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the first phase will focus on funding educational programmes, including Al-Quran 104 and Hadis Sunnah 104, to improve public understanding of Islamic teachings.

The second phase will involve upgrading facilities and technical support, while the third phase will focus on building media-related assets to ensure long-term sustainability.

“This is about agencies working together in coordinating and shaping the religious affairs agenda, particularly in advancing dakwah efforts,” he said after the Wakaf Media launch here today.

Zulkifli said Wakaf Media is also intended to help Islamic media organisations reduce reliance on traditional funding sources by providing an alternative through public contributions.

He added that salary-deduction waqf contributions have already begun among officers under his ministry.

“We have started collecting contributions, but the initiative has not been widely promoted yet,” he said.

According to him, the programme encourages participation from public servants and the public, while contributions from government-linked companies and the private sector are also welcome.

“We want people to be confident that their waqf contributions are managed transparently and produce tangible benefits,” he said.

He expressed hope that the initiative would help nurture a culture of giving, strengthen Malaysia’s position as a leader in contemporary waqf, and contribute to both economic growth and spiritual development.
