GUA MUSANG, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- The Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) has allocated more than RM146,000 for food basket assistance to remote areas in Kelantan for the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) period from 2025 to 2027.
Kelantan and Terengganu JAKOA director Mohd Faedzyal Mohamed said the allocation involves the delivery of food supplies to five Orang Asli remote posts, namely Pos Balar, Pos Belatim, Pos Simpor, Pos Gob and Pos Bihai.
“A total of 956 heads of households (KIR) benefit from these basic food baskets, which include rice, sugar, cooking oil and other essential items.
“The food assistance is provided due to the Northeast Monsoon season, which causes land routes to be cut off, preventing them from travelling to towns to obtain food,” he told reporters after a food basket delivery operation to affected remote areas in Bandar Baru here today.
Meanwhile, Galas assemblyman Datuk Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim expressed his appreciation to the government for consistently channelling assistance through JAKOA to affected residents each year.
“Thanks are also extended to the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) Air Unit for carrying out humanitarian flights to help deliver aid to communities in remote areas,” he said.
