KEDA CONTINUES EFFORTS TO ENHANCE WELFARE, SAFETY IN SETTLEMENTS

POKOK SENA, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- The Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) is continuing efforts to enhance welfare, safety and social well-being in KEDA settlements, particularly in the areas of housing, education, cleanliness and community entrepreneurship development.

Its chairman, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, said that to this end, the KEDA Settlement Tour series, which began last year, would be continued to obtain detailed data on community conditions as well as the effectiveness of the role played by the 4P Committee (Programme Planning and Implementation Team) in each KEDA settlement.

He said that to date, there were 56 KEDA settlements in the state, with about 5,700 houses developed as a KEDA initiative to provide more planned, orderly settlements complete with basic facilities.

“Each KEDA settlement has a 4P Committee responsible for the residents’ well-being, welfare and social safety. KEDA evaluates aspects such as housing, education data of children, and the level of cleanliness in the area. From there, we can identify the residents’ needs that require improvement.

“So far, I am satisfied with their role in managing community affairs in the KEDA settlements very well,” he told reporters at the KEDA Settlement Tour Programme at Desa KEDA Kampung Bendang Perang here today.

Meanwhile, Mahdzir said KEDA also provided entrepreneurship assistance, including equipment, to KEDA entrepreneurs who showed improved business performance, particularly in the food sector and small industries.

“Besides that, we have introduced a centralised waste collection system with a minimal fee agreed by residents so that garbage trucks can come to collect waste according to schedule,” he said.
