UKHUWAH MADANI STRENGTHENS WELFARE OF DELIVERY RIDERS

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- The government is committed to supporting the welfare and development of delivery riders through the Ukhuwah MADANI Programme with Persatuan Perpaduan Rakan Penghantar Malaysia recognising the vital role of gig workers.

Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia (AKM) under the Prime Minister’s Department, in a statement today, said the association's involvement is significant because delivery riders are key to the gig economy and essential to community life.

According to the statement, the programme held today at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Multipurpose Hall is a community initiative rooted in togetherness, care, and compassion, in line with Malaysia's MADANI aspirations.

AKM said the programme emphasised wellbeing, sustainability and compassion in national human capital development, while serving as a platform to foster volunteerism, leadership and social responsibility, especially among youth.

"The collective involvement of youth, civil servants, community associations and professionals is believed to be capable of forming a more harmonious, empathetic and mutually supportive community ecosystem," the statement added.

Meanwhile, Kota Damansara assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim, in the same statement, described the programme as an effective approach to bringing the MADANI government closer to the people, especially in terms of the welfare and development of delivery riders.

"In the daily hustle, especially for delivery riders working on the ground regardless of time and weather, small efforts like this can have a major impact," he said.
