KUALA LANGAT, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- Former Banting assemblywoman Datin Fatimah Suhaimi, 84, was laid to rest at the Kampung Medan Muslim Cemetery at 12.30 p.m. today.
Earlier, the remains of Fatimah, whose real name was Siti Fatimah Dullah Sukimi, were bathed and shrouded at the Masjid Jamiatul Islamiah.
Funeral prayers at the mosque were led by her youngest son, Mohd Izani Jaafar, 38, and were attended by more than 50 congregants.
Among those present to pay their last respects was former Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib.
Earlier, news of her passing at 4 am today at a private hospital due to old age was confirmed by her third son, Mohd Zyad Jaafar, 42, when contacted by Bernama.
Mohd Zyad said his mother had been hospitalised since last Wednesday after her health deteriorated. She had also previously suffered from a lung infection and kidney failure.
The deceased is survived by four children - three sons and a daughter - as well as four grandchildren.
Fatimah served as the Banting assemblywoman under the Kuala Langat parliamentary constituency for three terms beginning in 1982, and was once recognised as Tokoh Wanita Selangor.
She had held several important positions in UMNO including the Kuala Langat UMNO Division Wanita chief.
