KUALA LUMPUR, March 4 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) today reached out to frontline workers at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL), through its Ramadan Bernama 2026 corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, by distributing 1,200 food packs to hospital staff.
Themed ‘Ikhlas Memberi, Tulus Menghargai’ (Sincere Giving, Heartfelt Appreciation), the programme also included the distribution of financial assistance to several hospital staff currently undergoing medical treatment, in addition to contributions to the HKL Gerobok Rezeki initiative to help patients and underprivileged individuals.
Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said the initiative reflects the national news agency’s appreciation for the dedication of healthcare workers, who continue to serve in safeguarding the wellbeing of the people.
“The selection of HKL was made because of its close proximity to Bernama, and we recognise the duties of doctors, nurses and healthcare workers, who constantly need to act swiftly in carrying out their duties.
“This Ramadan, we hope to ease their burden of finding or purchasing food for breaking fast, by providing contributions to them as healthcare frontline workers,” she said when met after the programme at the HKL Main Hall, here.
The programme was carried out in collaboration with Bernama’s strategic partners, namely Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, YTL Power International Berhad, MyDigital ID Sdn Bhd and Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (Pernas).
Also present were HKL director Datuk Dr Harikrishna K.R. Nair; YTL Power International Berhad Commercial vice-president Dominic Hua; Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd Communications head Koh Boon Hui; MyDigital ID Sdn Bhd Commercial officer Mohamad Sany Yahaya; Pernas chief business officer Azizam Ramli; and Selayang Community College director Ahmad Rizal Omar.
Also in attendance were Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj; Deputy Editor-in-Chief of News Service Mohd Shukri Ishak; and Acting Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Economic News Service Harlina Samson, as well as Bernama’s top management.
Nur-ul Afida said that the financial assistance, amounting to RM4,000, is hoped to help ease the burden of the affected staff.
“We would also like to thank our strategic partners, including the community college which helped prepare the meals today,” she said.
She added that Bernama intends to organise similar programmes on a larger scale in the future, as the initiative enters its fourth year this year, and will also continue its annual Sepatu Raya (Raya Shoes) programme with orphans ahead of Syawal.
The Ramadan Bernama CSR programme has been implemented since 2023, with the first location at Bazaria Lembah Pantai, followed by Dataran Putrajaya (2024) and Kampung Batu Laut, Banting, Selangor (2025).
Meanwhile, Dr Harikrishna said that such programmes demonstrate the community’s concern for the welfare of hospital staff, who remain committed to providing the best standard of care to patients, while also boosting the morale of healthcare workers.
“Through the contribution channelled to the HKL Gerobok Rezeki, it is very helpful as not all of our staff come from well-off backgrounds.
“This noble effort not only provides food assistance, but also gives a positive impact to the entire HKL workforce in carrying out their duties throughout this blessed month,” he said.
Meanwhile, Azizam said that Pernas was honoured to collaborate with Bernama, which he described as the best platform to highlight the agency’s role to the community, adding that Pernas will continue implementing various CSR programmes throughout this year.
For Koh, Canon was pleased to contribute to healthcare frontline workers at HKL, and described the collaboration as a good example for other organisations to grow together with the community and work collectively for the common good.
Ahmad Rizal said the Ramadan CSR programme was meaningful, as it gave Selayang Community College the opportunity to contribute during the holy month, adding that collaboration among the parties involved helped ensure that the programme was implemented more smoothly and systematically.
Representing My DigitalID Sdn Bhd, Mohamad Sany said that, apart from sharing sustenance, the collaboration was also a chance for the company to explain in greater detail to the public about the use and security of MyDigital ID Sdn Bhd.
“We are using this opportunity to strengthen the role of civil servants in supporting the implementation of this national digital identity, to facilitate government online services in a safer and more efficient manner,” he added.
