BUDI95 LIMIT TEMPORARILY ADJUSTED TO 200 LITRES PER MONTH, STILL AT RM1.99 PER LITRE - PM ANWAR

KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 (Bernama) -- The individual monthly limit for the purchase of BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) petrol will be temporarily adjusted to 200 litres per month from 300 litres per month previously, effective April 1.

Nevertheless, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the subsidised RON95 price will remain unchanged at RM1.99 per litre.

“We have studied the current BUDI95 usage and found that the average individual consumption is around 100 litres. This means the majority of people use only about 100 litres of the fuel a month, and nearly 90 per cent consume less than 200 litres, so they will not be affected.

“This measure is temporary, pending recovery in global oil supply and economic conditions, although there are no clear signs of improvement yet,” he said in a special address today.

Anwar said the fuel cap for e-hailing drivers and gig workers will remain at 800 litres per month, taking into account the nature of their work and daily operational needs.

Meanwhile, he said that Sabah and Sarawak will continue to enjoy subsidised diesel at a price of RM2.15 per litre despite rising global prices.

“As the price gap widens, we must remain vigilant and strengthen controls and enforcement. However, given the geographical and logistical realities of Sabah and Sarawak, this is a reasonable decision for now. Leakages must still be curbed,” he said.

Anwar also announced limits on fuel purchases to ensure fair distribution and sufficient supply. Light vehicles for public transport, goods and private use will be capped at 50 litres per transaction, vehicles under three tonnes at 100 litres, and those exceeding three tonnes at 150 litres.

“This is to ensure supply remains available and is distributed fairly to all. Without these adjustments, there is a risk of stockpiling and smuggling, as previously detected,” he said.

In his address, the Prime Minister also appealed to the public for understanding, stressing that the measures were carefully considered in light of current pressures facing the country.

“Many countries, including our neighbours, have raised fuel prices, but Malaysia has chosen to maintain the BUDI95 price at RM1.99. These steps are necessary to protect the wider public interest.

“I ask for the people’s understanding and cooperation as we work to prevent leakages. It is not easy and may cause some inconvenience, but it is necessary,” he added.
