GLOBAL ENERGY CRISIS: SELANGOR TO HOLD SPECIAL MEETING ON FRIDAY, SAYS MB

01/04/2026 10:23 PM

SHAH ALAM, April 1 (Bernama) -- The Selangor state government will hold a special meeting this Friday to coordinate efforts to assist the people amid the global energy crisis, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the meeting would focus on assisting vulnerable groups and ensuring effective support for the industrial sector in the state.

He said the meeting would take place following the special meeting of menteris besar and chief ministers with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tomorrow to review the Federal Government’s plans.

“Insya-Allah, the state government will make thorough preparations based on facts and the latest information to assist the people and the industrial sector in Selangor.

“A special task force will be established, with regular meetings to be held to ensure the measures outlined are implemented in an orderly and effective manner,” he said in a Facebook post.

In the post, Amirudin said he had convened a Special Roundtable Meeting of the State Executive Council today to discuss the Middle East crisis and its impact on the economy and people of Selangor.

He said the special meeting, which was also attended by heads of several state government-owned subsidiaries directly involved in the crisis, brought together experts in economics, geopolitics and energy to present their analysis and initial projections of the war’s impact.

“The purpose of the special roundtable meeting is to outline the work and main framework as part of the state’s preparedness in facing global uncertainties, taking into account Selangor’s significant contribution of 26.2 per cent to the country’s GDP.

“Any implications for Selangor will certainly have a direct impact on the entire Malaysian economy and today’s efforts mark the beginning of several state-level actions to support initiatives led by the Federal Government,” he said.

Amirudin said the Selangor government had experience in dealing with major challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the major floods in December 2021 and last year’s gas pipe explosion, during which the state government and the people worked together to recover.
