JITRA, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- About 4,000 people attended the Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) Jualan Kasih MADANI 2024 event, held in collaboration with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) at the Napoh Rural Community Centre today.
Despite the rainy weather, crowds gathered for the programme, which began at 9 am, to purchase 53 essential items at prices up to 30 per cent lower than the market rate.
KEDA chairman Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said the programme was a continuation of the successful events held previously at the Sik KEDA Office and Desa KEDA Singkir Badong, Yan.
He said that the event featured a ‘combo sale’ priced at RM15, along with a ‘happy hour’ offering three items, namely a chicken, cooking oil, and sugar, for just RM10. Also available were 10 kg bags of rice at RM18.20 each, fresh beef at RM26.60 per kg, and items like shallots, garlic, potatoes, and dried chillies, all sold in RM10 packages.
“Despite the rain since this morning, it hasn’t stopped visitors from coming to purchase food supplies such as rice, fish, meat, and vegetables at low prices,” he told reporters here today.
According to Jamil Khir, today’s sales programme was held in response to the positive and overwhelming feedback from the previous event, which aimed to ease the financial burden on the people.
He stated that the programme also served as a platform to promote and market the products of 20 KEDA entrepreneurs, thus helping to boost the income of the participating traders.
During the event, KEDA and FAMA signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to ensure the success of next year’s event, with an allocation of RM150,000 covering the Kulim, Baling, and Padang Terap districts.
Jamil Khir said that the programme was in line with the MADANI government’s aspirations to improve the welfare of the people and empower the agricultural sector.
“This collaboration is also a strategic move for KEDA to work with FAMA in creating opportunities for KEDA entrepreneurs, allowing them to market their products with the support and expertise offered by FAMA.
“This initiative not only strengthens the economy of rural entrepreneurs but also supports the sustainable development of the agricultural sector in Kedah,” he said.
