JOHOR KPDN PRAISES QUICK ACTION OF PETROL STATION STAFF TO PREVENT RON95 MISUSE

PONTIAN, Jan 25 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) of Johor has praised the quick thinking of a petrol station worker in Taman Pelangi, Johor Bahru, for preventing the owner of a foreign-registered vehicle from filling up with subsidised RON95 petrol.

Johor KPDN director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo commended the worker for ensuring that subsidised petrol products designated for locals were not misappropriated.

She said the Johor KPDN had investigated the incident after it detected a viral video on social media.

“From our initial investigation, the incident occurred on Tuesday (Jan 21). The vehicle owner used a debit card to fill up with fuel but was stopped when the petrol station staff detected an attempt to misuse the item.

“We have evidence showing that the vehicle owner only managed to fill up with less than a litre of RON95 petrol,” she said after launching the state-level Chinese New Year Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) at a supermarket in Pekan Nanas here today.

Lilis Saslinda said the vehicle owner, a woman, then refuelled with RON97 petrol as required after being reprimanded by the petrol station staff.

As such, she reminded all petrol station operators to be vigilant against any attempt to misappropriate RON95 petrol.

“A total of 200 Johor KPDN enforcers will monitor the supply of controlled essential goods in conjunction with SHMMP, including RON95 petrol, for the sake of Malaysians,” she said, adding that public complaints regarding such incidents are most welcome.

Earlier, a 12-second video went viral on social media showing a woman filling up a red vehicle with a foreign registration number with RON95 petrol but stopped when a petrol station employee intervened.
