KANGAR, March 28 (Bernama) -- A total of 246 prisoners released on licence (OBBs) in Perlis have secured jobs through the Second Chance Initiative or known as Corporate Smart Internship (CSI) programme since January, which has helped them return to society in better conditions.
Perlis Prison director Kamarul Zaman Ali Zaman said the number included 70 OBBs in January, followed by 85 OBBs in February and increased to 91 in March.
“The OBBs involved in this programme are mostly between 25 and 45 years old and are given job opportunities according to their qualifications. Employers who hire them are not only from within the state but also from outside the state.
“They also have the flexibility to return to their homes or continue working in their current workplaces if they are interested in continuing their contracts after the programme expires,” he told Bernama today.
Kamarul Zaman said the duration of the programme was subject to the remaining period of their respective sentences, which are not the same for each prospect based on the calculation of the date of eligibility for Prisoner Release on Licence (PBSL).
In Perlis, all the OBBs involved were men, and they worked in various sectors such as agriculture, plantations, quarrying and retail, he added
