KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Bernama) -- The official visit of Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to Malaysia is expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, the halal industry, education, tourism, youth, and sports.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the Maldives, Malaysia’s sixth-largest trading partner in South Asia, remains a key partner in enhancing strategic ties that benefit both nations.
“The exchange of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and two Exchange of Notes (EoNs) witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Dr Mohamed Muizzu is expected to further expand cooperation across key sectors between the two nations.
“May this warm relationship continue to grow stronger and bring positive impacts to the wellbeing and prosperity of both countries, Insya-Allah,” he said in a post on his official Facebook page today.
Earlier today, the Prime Minister and Dr Mohamed Muizzu witnessed the exchange of three MoUs and two EoNs covering various sectors, aimed at strengthening cooperation based on mutual benefit.
Key highlights include MoUs between the governments of Malaysia and the Maldives in the fields of tourism, sports cooperation, and healthcare collaboration.
Meanwhile, the two EoNs signed cover cooperation in diplomatic training and the establishment of bilateral consultations between Malaysia and the Republic of Maldives.
Earlier, the Deputy Prime Minister also attended the official welcoming ceremony for Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who is on a four-day official visit to Malaysia, held at Perdana Putra, Putrajaya this morning.
Dr Mohamed Muizzu arrived in Malaysia yesterday at the invitation of the Prime Minister, marking his first official visit to the country since assuming office as President in November 2023.
