WAN ROSDY AWARDED HONORARY DOCTORATE BY YARMOUK UNIVERSITY

KUANTAN, April 28 (Bernama) — Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail was awarded a Honorary Doctorate (PhD) in Islamic Economics and Banking by the Yarmouk University in Jordan today.

Wan Rosdy, who expressed his appreciation for the recognition, said it was a symbol of the close strategic relationship that has been established for a long time between the Pahang government and Yarmouk University.

He said the official cooperation between the two parties began in 2001, when a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Pahang Foundation College and Yarmouk University to send Pahang children to pursue their studies at the university in the field of Islamic studies.

"After 14 years, the bilateral cooperation continues to be strengthened with the signing of a MoU with Pahang and the university today," he said in a statement tonight.

The PhD was presented by the President of Yarmouk University, Professor Dr Islam Massad to Wan Rosdy at the Yarmouk University in Jordan today. 

Wan Rosdy said a total of 363 Pahang children had completed their studies at Yarmouk University while 78 others were still continuing their studies.

"I believe that the strong academic relationship between Pahang and Yarmouk University can be further expanded to fields of joint research, Islamic economic innovation, green technology and sustainable development.

"I hope that more Pahang children will take the opportunity to pursue their studies at Yarmouk University and utilise the knowledge and experience gained for the progress of the state and the country," he said.

He hoped that this collaboration would continue to strengthen the field of research and development based on Islamic values and the principles of Maqasid Shariah, thus making Pahang a successful and competitive state at the national and global levels.
