KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- The National Fishermen's Association (NEKMAT) has described the expansion of the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative to over 17,900 fishermen registered with the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) as a crucial measure to ease their operational cost burden.
NEKMAT Board chairman Abdul Hamid Bahari expressed gratitude to the MADANI Government, saying the move is crucial in helping fishermen face current economic challenges and the upcoming monsoon season, while demonstrating the government's commitment to including them in fuel subsidies
"The association also wishes to thank the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and LKIM for their assistance in coordinating data and ensuring all eligible fishermen can access the BUDI95 benefits," he said in a statement today.
Abdul Hamid added that NEKMAT is committed to continuing its close cooperation with relevant government agencies to ensure all its members gain full and equitable access to the subsidy.
The Ministry of Finance announced in a statement yesterday that the BUDI95 initiative has been expanded to three new groups, encompassing over 31,000 citizens nationwide.
The expansion includes more than 17,900 LKIM-registered fishermen, over 4,300 private boat owners registered with the Sabah Ports and Harbours Department, and more than 9,700 new driving licence holders recorded by the Road Transport Department.
