METMALAYSIA: TROPICAL STORM SENYAR WEAKENS, RAIN AND STRONG WINDS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE

28/11/2025 11:20 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- Tropical Storm Senyar has weakened and been downgraded to a low-pressure system but may still cause continuous heavy rain, strong winds, and rough seas to several parts of the peninsula until tomorrow, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said.

Its director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said the tropical storm was in the central region of the peninsula, after having made landfall at around midnight last night on the coast between Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

He said that Tropical Storm Senyar was forecast to continue moving eastward towards the waters of the South China Sea, which could bring continuous heavy rain, strong winds, and rough seas to several areas, particularly in Pahang and Terengganu.

“Although the weather system is weakening, rain cloud formation remains active. MetMalaysia will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates and weather warnings if there are significant changes,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Hisham also urged the public to remain vigilant and follow the latest information, forecasts, and weather warnings from MetMalaysia via its website www.met.gov.my, the myCuaca application, official social media platforms, and the hotline at 1-300-22-1638.

Yesterday, he said the tropical storm was detected entering the Strait of Melaka since 3.30 pm and was expected to bring continuous heavy rain, strong winds, and rough seas in Selangor, Perak and parts of Pahang.

Malaysia has previously been directly hit by tropical storms twice: Tropical Storm Greg in western Sabah on Dec 26, 1996, and Tropical Storm Vamei in southern Peninsular Malaysia on Dec 26, 2001.
