UTHM NAMED ASIA’S TECHNOPRENEURSHIP UNIVERSITY OF THE YEAR 2025

JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) was named the Technopreneurship University of the Year at the Top Asia Corporate Ball 2025, further strengthening its position as a competitive higher learning institution in the region.

The prestigious award was presented by Paduka Puteri Tunku Mariamz Almarhum Sultan Iskandar to UTHM vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mas Fawzi Mohd Ali yesterday evening.

In a statement, UTHM said the recognition not only elevates the university’s standing on the Asian stage but also reinforces confidence in its strategic direction to emerge as the Global Technopreneur University by 2030 (GTU2030).

“The award was conferred based on a comprehensive evaluation covering three core pillars of the university’s operations: Corporate Performance, Innovation Excellence and the Entrepreneurship Ecosystem, elements now regarded as UTHM’s new ‘DNA’.

“These three elements also reflect the transformation of higher education institutions from merely centres of learning to economic drivers and community problem-solvers,” it said.

Meanwhile, Mas Fawzi said the recognition serves as a catalyst for the university to strengthen its innovation and technopreneurship ecosystem in line with the GTU2030 goals.

He said the significant increase in spin-off companies established by students and staff demonstrates that UTHM’s ecosystem has grown more mature and dynamic, built on strong corporate, innovation and entrepreneurial foundations.

The award, he said, is not merely a trophy but a responsibility to ensure that every research output, every spin-off created and every graduate produced delivers added value to the economy and society.

“The ecosystem is designed comprehensively, starting from the early identification of entrepreneurial talent in the first year of study, to the establishment of spin-off companies, before they return as alumni entrepreneurs contributing back to the institution.

“With this recognition, UTHM reaffirms its commitment to driving the national agenda in nurturing competitive technopreneurs capable of breaking into global markets,” he said.
