KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- Following monsoon warnings and the impact of a tropical storm issued by the Meteorological Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has placed 370 of its personnel on standby to respond to any possible incidents in the city.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said 15 flood hotspots had been identified and will be continuously monitored throughout the monsoon season.
“In this period of unpredictable weather, we cannot compromise on public safety,” she said in a Facebook statement today.
Earlier today, she received a preparedness briefing from DBKL following the monsoon warning and tropical storm effects, before inspecting two high-risk locations — a land subsidence area at Jalan Masjid India and a landslide site in Taman United.
The inspections were also attended by Federal Territories Department director-general Datuk Seri Noridah Abdul Rahim and Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud.
“At Jalan Masjid India, I inspected the land subsidence that occurred recently. I have instructed DBKL to conduct a detailed study to prevent a recurrence and to ensure the safety of the area at all times.
“In Taman United, I inspected the landslide location that occurred during heavy rain two weeks ago. Alhamdulillah, immediate action has been taken, including the evacuation of 52 high-risk housing units, and repair works are expected to be completed before the end of December,” she said.
She also urged DBKL and related agencies to act swiftly, ensure proper coordination and maintain clear communication with affected residents.
