MIRI, Dec 14 (Bernama) -- The number of flood and landslide victims in Sarawak continues to decrease, with only two temporary relief centres (PPS) still operating in Miri.

As of 4 pm today, the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) reported that the number of victims had decreased to 29 people from 17 families, compared with 127 people from 60 families yesterday.

The number of flood victims at the PPS in SK Suai Niah dropped to 21 people from 14 families, compared to 119 people from 57 families previously.

Meanwhile, the PPS at the Malaysian Red Crescent hall continues to house four flood victims from two families and four members of a family affected by a landslide.

Meanwhile, in TERENGGANU, heavy rain has been continuous since yesterday evening, causing floods again.

The Terengganu Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Colonel Mohd Zul Khairi Shamsuddin said a total of 53 victims from 18 families in the Hulu Terengganu district were evacuated to two PPS this afternoon.

He said that out of that number, 45 victims from 16 families were placed at the PPS in the Kampung Peneh Mosque, while another eight victims from two families were moved to the PPS at the Kampung Lubok Periok town hall, which was opened at 5.45 pm today.

“Heavy rain continues in the Hulu Terengganu district, with the number of victims expected to increase.

“Therefore, people in high-risk areas are advised to be vigilant and aware of the authorities' instructions," he said when contacted by Bernama today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department today issued a continuous rain warning expected to affect several states until Thursday.

Its director-general, Dr. Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip, in a previous statement, announced that heavy continuous rain of severe intensity is predicted to hit Kelantan and Terengganu.
